The prices paid for cotton in Conway ranges at present from <; i to 7 ' cents. Taking into consideration the one-half cent per pound car ringc expenses to Wilmington and Charleston, this is as much as either of those ports pay. The Young Men's Literary Club was organized on last Friday night. This Club was formed for the purpose of drawing the young men of town togother socially once a week and also for discussing current questions and keeping up with the the literature of the day. Mr. Editor:?The young men of Toddsvillo and vicinity have organized a Debating Society here, which meets at the school-houso on every Thursday evening. This is excellent training for the young men; they all take a lively interest in the meetings. A spir^ of friendly intellectual rivalry make the meetings of tho society very enjoyable. The Club meets the Will ow Branch Rociety on Thursday night, next to debate tho question, Should capital punishment bo inflicted on circumstantial evidence. The Willow Branch Club is on the affirmative. Our school under the tuition of Mr. Isaac Cc x is prospering. Tho teacher is well known throughout the county as a thorough and con seicncious young man. Occasional. DIED. Mrs. A. 13 Wilson, wife of Mr. A. 13. Wilson died Saturday Oct. 7tli 1803., after a lingering illness of * about 8 months. Kvorybody seemed interested in the proceedings. TI10 attendanco was large and well behaved. Tho Holy Spirit was manifestly present to en courage and inspire. The Sunday oxeicisos wore said to have been most excellent. Tho performance of tho local School conducted by Mrs. J. 10. Duscnhury is thought by some to excel anything of the bind that ever occurred in Horry, and all done in such a devotional spirit as to diffuse itself among the audience and affect the majority to tears. ( real good is evidently accomplished at th'*se meetings, and it is strange that they are not more numerously attended by the Sunday School workers from all parts of the I / 1 i .. VvUll II I V. The object of those Con volitions is not to promote denominationalism, but the Christian instruction of children and others svho are willilig to be taugl t in tlio Sunday schools. It is a benediction to bo present and hear the brethren discuss matters and tell of their experience in leading children to Christ. Wvery cluild born into a family is an inoreasod responsibility, and God says; Take this chibl and train for Me and 1 will give thee thy wages. This is an obligation that cannot bo evaded without incurring the penalty of neglect. T? i Sunday School presents advai .ages for this purpose that no other institution of the Church does. The design of the Sunday School is not to supplant the home instruction, but to supplement ; 'im?. c l..., Hill V.IM VI ft lt< 1 III" ? HI I lUil \ OlliU'M method of teaching the pooplo antedates ihe time of llobert Kaikes by several centuries. In the time of Nchernia!) the people assembled for instruction in the law and the method of imputing it did not difterer so widely from present Sunday School methods. Ezra read the law and Joshua, Bane, Jhcrobiah, Janain, Akkub, Shabbethai, Ilodiah, Maasoiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Ilanan, Pelaih, and the Lovites, caused the people to understand the law: and the people stood in their place. And they read in the book, in the law of God, distinctly, (or with interpretation); and they gave the sense, so that they understood the reading (or caused them to understand.) Now is not this almost an exact counterpart of present Sunday School meetings, with this exception, that some of our modern teachers are not so apt to teach, or cause to understand? A groat revival is needed along this line and Sunday School Conventions are oowerfnl agents miller the Divine guidance in bringing about this revivnl. We have said more than wo intended when wo began to write, but the subject is largo and prolific. The Secretary will give an account of the proceedings at Socastce in detail in some future issue. The next Convention goes to Poplar, a central place, and wo hope to seo a much larger attendance of delegates. The officers elected are as follows: .1. '\ Derham, President; B. L. Beaty, Secretary; 10. V. Dusenbury, Ass't. Secretary; I). II. Jordan, Treasurer; B. G. Collins, J. A. Lewis, J. T. Mayers, .1. 0. Bryant and W. ][. Long, Executive Com 1uiiico. A Stolen Mare. On the evening of the 3rd of October some one stolo a small light roan mare about 4 or 5 years old. She if of the vVostern stock, and is branded with anchor and some other brand on right thigh, to the best of my recollection, has a heavy tail. Any one capturing them will receive $10 00 for each, the mare and the one that stole her. A. J. Todd. October 4 1803. Hepresentative J. M. Stalvey happened to a pretty serious accident during the Sunday School Convention last week While driving along the road, his nude bccan a frightened and jumpped across the side ditch, throwing Mr, Stalvey from his road cart and bruising him seriously, ,MUK 'id ** P*xw lis* 11 uin|?to 1 v , -J,: A LLIANCK M KICTIMi .
