p The Horry IT o Published Every Thursday. E. NORTON, Editor J. T MAYERS. Qon'l. Managor. CQN\VAY, S. C., FKB. 9, 1893. I Arrow Heads. y. c. Hitptist. More honesty, more generosity. What God thinks of us, is charao ter. Your opinion of Christianity, is what you are. Beware of an enemy hearing a Hag , of truce. You can't pas? at Ilea veil's gate upon your face. God don't sa\e a man with his hands in his pockets. Society, society sucks the soul until it is as hollow as a drum. Don't try to wash yourself clean of sins. God alone can do that. The argument of Ingersollism will bo stopped at tho liar of God. When business gets the better part of religon, the Devil rejoices. These know-all youngsters raised j in a city are a disgrace to humanity. If you have given vows of union with God dout llirt with the Devil. It is not preaching but practicing that makes Christianity a blessing. Arc you a pillar in the temple of God? Look out for unsound places. Wo have too many preachers who ars simply speaking tubes for the bosses. Joy and sorrow are agencies in God's hands to mould his children into saints. Rich food to thy dogs and cold bread to the poor is a compress to thy soul. If you ask God for daily bread, ?i t - 1 yon won t cireai sonic poor widow to get it. It is not where most I g<>, how must 1 feel, but "what must I do to bo saved " The "Bookers after tho dollar have little uso for tho motto; "in God wo trust." A towcraing pipe organ with paid singers aro not parts of a "model church." When these long creeds are poked at you just shut your mouth and read your Bible. Von may sing "I want to he an angel" all your life and then never get to heaven. Church members quarrrel, go to law, and are tried by unbelievers. Paul says do otherwise. Loud amens on Sunday and "calling figures" 011 Monday night is not the shining light. Do you want your name 011 the Book of Life so smoked with tobacco that it can't be read? The whole world is one big asy lunt full of lunatics over the question of making money. God's railroad starts at conviction and ends at Glory, carrying only through passengers. Some preachers futne and puff over little evils like they were kill ing (lies with sludge hammers. Some men are horn rascals, some achieve rascality, but none have rascality thrust upon them. Many of these hallelujah, fandangle songs in the churches nowadays are the Devil's own patent. ~ Ms the Lord your Shepherd?" If so don't try to manage yourself, God j will bring you into the fold. Constant association with men without making them love your ro ligioi. shows that you hav'nt much. Don,t be afraid of talking to God, lie is always glad to see you, and! will hear all your complaints and ' thanksgivings Don't go into partnership with the Devil, for he will get the whole concern, and charge you up with the) accounts. With unwilling hounds its hard to hunt hares, and with indifferent church members it's hard to catch the dying souls about you. Don't imagine that the whole road is lined with rotten bridges, for with God, as a support for them they'll hold up the universe. Many a man will wade knee deep in snow to get to his grocery store in the morning hv sunrise, but the weather is too bad to go to church. The wonders of religion as manifested upon the hearts and lives of men speak vol tunes, fuller and nobler than all the works of men throughout the ages. God's vessel is lying nlongside, telling you that you are overloaded and begs you to cast it all upon the eternal steamer that's bound for the port of glory. Property Destroyed l>y Flouting Ice. Louisvmi.k, Jan. 31.-This morning huge fields of ice was floating down the river carrying every thing before them. Up to noon in this harbor and at Humpkin Patch six milea above, 30 loaded barges and 130 empty one? have been sunk or carried over the falls. These were valued at 1150,000. The tow boat Aid I , w| ttSKfr. > h Jf 7. J ; ; ^ ( ' . . ?''y was also sunk. The lInUpur hail soveral holes cot in her hold and the little steam yatch t'ani< II. was s? nt to the hottom. Altogether the dam ages so far are estimate I at $<J00,(MH) The harbor ho e is pretty well strip-1 ped, but a great deal of further damage is expected above. There are still several hundred barges of coal at Pumphin Patch, and these may he swept away at any moment. Forty dive barges had passed Madison up to noon to day showing that the damage further up the river was also considerable. The Kmperor ol (?Qi*many lots placed upon the wall of his study a large photograph of which lie is very proud. It is a portrait half life size of the biggest and smallest soldier of the Prussian army s'audiog side by side. The forniM' is private Priz ohan, of the First ltodgiment of tlv? Prussian Guard, lie stands 0 feet ? | inches in ids boots, and when he presented himself at GusseUbuf for examination a special apparatus hud to l)e provided with which to take his waist measure, iiis breadth is in proper porpbtion with liis height The smallest soldier it* the hereditary : prince. The picture is a unique one showing ii veritable giant, quite equal to any that figure in "Grimm's Tales" or other books of fables, and by his side a soldierly I lillipution. Some fancy the charms of the lilywhite maid, ()f etheriul form and languishing eye, Who faints in the sunshine and droops in the shade, And is always "just ready to die." Put give me '.lie girl of the sunshiny face The blooo in whose veins courses J healthy and free, With the vigor of youth in her move ments of grace, Oh, that is the maiden for mc! She is the girl to "tie to" for life.
