V. L. Pegues conducted public serVnces
in the Methodist church last
Sunday morning and evening. The
services weiy well attended and enjoyed,
especially at night when there
was an unusually large and apprecia-1
tive audience. These services conr
eluded Mr. Pegues' ministry in Horry.
He left on Tuesday morning
for his new field of operations at
Donalds, Abbeville County. Mr.
Pegues leaves some warm friends be-I
hind who will ever rejoice at his sue- j
cess and prosperity.

his intention to resign his seat in
Congress to accept the position of
Attorney for the Richmond and Danville
railroad. As Congressman his
salary is $5,000 per annum and the

Creek township on Monday, 25th
ult. The child had bcon taken in j
its cradle to the field so as to be near
its mother who was picking cotton. 1

which the cradle was placed near it ,

attention. Up in the day the heat c
of the sun and the tire together dried ]
the dew from the grass, which became
ignited. The flames were communicated
to the crib and the child <

Col. Jehu Causey died on Tuesday
night December 3rd, after a ^
sliort illness, lie had passed the
limit allowed to this transitory life,
being in his 73rd year. Col. Causey
had been a man of prominence $
during his more vigorous days in
the County and in the Church, and
had wielded an influence for good in
the community. He was a man of
strong convictions and of unswerv- $
ing devotion to principle. His at- j
taohments were equally as strong. $
I.utterly he was somewhat deaf and
did not mingle much in social life, ]
seldom coming to Conway except on
private business. He leaves a wife
j and six children, three sons and
three daughters.
