Prof. Baine, of North Carolina, is
in town and makiug up n singiug class for
instruction in vocal music. The Prof, has
an experience of over twenty years in
teaching young ideas how to sing, and we
presume is thoroughly competent and
capable. There is some musical taleut
among our youug people and the demands
of the times require its development.
Good singing contributes largely to successful
worship. The effects of a good
sermon is partially destroyed by bad or
indifferent music. Music properly rendered
prepares a preacher to do his l>eHt?
It has a soothing, awakening and enliven
ing effect upon the auditors and qualities ,
them for appreciative listening. We wish
the class success.

To wiu where love and friendship failed,
Now will we Alliance-men stand by,
And see our liberties assailed?
Tell me men of alliance birth, from

It cursed the fairest spot on earth
Our dear homes between the seas.
The sun of Ood hath never shone
Upon a land so free or bright,
Take care that freedom shall not groan
Beneath the darkness of the night.
And now upon our tAdonsjsoll,
Americas tyrant capitalist roam;
Seeking how they can despoil.
