We arc indebted to Mnj. Buck for (
a copy of the Supply hill, which was
read the first time in tin; House Dee. j
15th. It levies a State tax of 5A ]
mills and a County tax ran^in^ from ,
2 mills in Charleston county to ll | |
in Pickens. In Horrv the levy is 4^ j
mills which with the State and school
makes a total of 12 mills, ^ of one j
mill less than last year. The county (
levy iti Georiretown is It) mills. The

The railroad and telegraph arc
here and the advantages to be deriv- i
I M
ed from them depend now noon
how the people use them. Neither
was projected as a charitable institu 1
tion to scatter money through ti e 1
county without something in return.
Ch[ ital is exceedingly cautious and
seeks investment in such schemes a
promise the largest returns. The
Company building tiie railroad and
telegraph expects to realize a pr >lit
from the invesMnent and the four
townships contributing to the capital
stock are mutually interested and
vitally concerned in aiding the
achievement of success. Certain!
ly the Company will afford all
facilities in its power to increase
the productions of the County, for in
thus doing it abets its own success.
The resources of Horry are almost
boundless, butnro latent, and require
capital for thoir development. This
capital can bo induced to corno by
tho proper management on tbo part
of owners of real estate. To drive
capital away it is only necessary to
hold real estate, either iri rental or '
(purchase, at fictitiously fabulous pri'cos.
