A Curious Iteuindiii) AKt'lit I nnl
in Auufiistn.
While on rounds, tho other day, I
saw a curious and wonderful remedy,
wliioli is said to Im> a sure euro for
cancer.
The case referred to i that of Mr.
.lacol) llert/, n well-known (ierman
citizen of Augusta.
W'iiilo wcmlinir uiv way up town
this morning 1 was hailed hy a oentletnan
who invited mo to accompany
him to the room of the t?cnt!eman
above mentioned, at tin' same timet
statinjr that I would lit id it a oood '
subject to write upon. I pott enter :
iuo the room we found a numhet of]
oontlemen. together with Mr. llert/.
who was sitting in a rorkine-ehaii
with a iHrire, common sea oral* ?*ti11jjt*
iiiiC to his nock. I pon hein^r asked
about himself. Mr. Ilert/ stated that
about a year uoo In* was troubled
with a pimple on his tongue, which
oradualK tfrcw larger ami larger until
it developed into a cancer. lie
went to a prominent Now York physician,
who stated that the onlv rem
edv was to < til out the tongue, includmir
the root, was taken out. A
remarkable thine about this is that,
although his tooome is entirely a<mc.
he can talk and be distinctly under- j
stood. After his tongue was taken !
out he enjoyed perfect healtli moil
about a month ajro. when another
cancer developed on the rijjht siile of j
his neck. The most prominent phv- i
sieions of the city were called in. and
after attending him for ahout a week
promamced it incurable, stilting that
>X was impossible foj him to live
more than a few days. About ihit^ i ,
time an old friend of his, Win. (
Voelker. visited his room one day
and stated that lie had discovered a
remedv in an old (lenium nook,
printed lifts years ami, which was
pronounced a positive cure foi oanci r.
J'his roineds was to tie tho claws of a |
crab and place him on the wo md. ?ho ,
liool; st.rtinu- that it would extract ali (
the virus from the wound and then t
expire. Although Mr. Hertz's life |
laid been despaired of bv his friends, .
ilicv derided to try this remedy as a ,
last resort. Accordingly they oh- ']
rained a basket i?f emit*

toll ami tried them, nutting tin* lirst ^
one on alioiit t<*ii days ago. At tliai (
time tin* wound was fully two i'nehe> ~|
in diameter. Tin* lirst erah expired (
in aiiout on** hour, and wliuii taken i
off and cut ojicii it was found that it
was perfectly black ali through. ,
Since that time they have been applieil
daily, and now a single crab re- *
mains on tiie wound lor live hours
without expiring, and the wound today
presents a decidedly more
healthy appearance and is hardly an
inch in diameter.
When the doctors despaired of ^
sav.iig the life of Mr. Hertz and notified
hi id that he would die his neck '
was terribly swollen; he could neith-j.
er move his head nor arms, and found
it impossible to sleep at night on account
of the terrible pain lie endured. 1
At present lie can move head and
arms freely, walks around the room
with case, and sleeps from "ight to
cloven hours a night. Ho eats heartily,
and seems to enjoy his meals.
The crabs act by sucking the virus
from the wound, thus keeping it
clean and preventing the poison from
