An explosion in a mine near
Dps Moines, Iowa, on Friday re
sulted in the immediate death of
21 men and the injury of 11
others.
Mobile, Ala., bad a $300,000 fire
on Saturday. Hiobard H. Vidner, a
popular citizen, and a negro lost
their lives in fighting the fire.
Two distinct shocks of earth
quake were felt in St. Louis, Mo.,
on Friday morning at 5 o’clock. In
some cases people were frightened
out of their houses.
Frank Rakowski, until recently
a soldier, has been sentenced to
imprisonment for .ten years for
threatening the life of Presidents
Roosevelt.
The transport Thomas, which
sails from San Francisco the first of
February, will carry 1,800 recruits
for the army in the Philippints.
The American liner Philadelphia,
