Edgar May and Miss Mary Catherine Tanner, both of Madison county, Va. January 16, 1902, by Rev W. P. Huddle, at the residence of Mr. James O. Clore, Mr. J. Walter Kite of Portsmouth, N. H , and Miss Eva C Clore of Madison county, Va. December 25, 1901, at the home of the bride’s father, Mr. M. M. Metts, Cameron, S. C., Mr. ('has. F. McCoy and Miss Maggie Metts, Rev. tl. A. McCullough (Siciatirg. This deservedly popular couple left immediately after their marriage for a visit to the Charleston Expo sition. H. A. M (Obituaries. Elizabeth Amick, daughter of Gasper Amick, died at the home of Henry Taylor, on January 6. 1902, at the supposed age of 87 years. She was a member of Sc. Peter’s (Piney Woods) church for many years. In the aosence of her pas tor the funeral was conducted by Rev. J. K. fefird of Little Moun tain, S. C. She leaves a sister and other relatives and friends to mourn for her. J. K. E James Lloyd Crabtree was killed December 17, 1901, in a runaway by a horse near Selwood, S C*, while returning from Colombia where he had accompanied bis wife who took the train there to visit his aged parents in Tennessee. He was in his 32nd year He came to South Carolina in 1893, and Octo ber 24, 1894, was happily married to Miss Carrie Chesterfield Yonngi ner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Younginer, and who is left to mourn his death with two ehil dren—a daughter aud a son. His remains were sent to the home of his parents in Greene county. Tenn., for interment. He was kind and generons hearted in disposi tio-i, and bad won many friends in his new home. May God bless the widow in her sorrow and take the dear children in the arms of His everlasting protection. , A Friend. Miss Mary Dunaphin died in Augusta county, Va.,nu D cember 24, 1901, aged about 83 yiars. The funeral service was eoiidiieted by the writer in Salem church on De cember 25th. Geo. A Riser Stephen Tobler was boru in Wyfhe was bom in Wytho county, Va., August 1 L842, aud died Jan nary 7, 1902 He was married to Lucinda Huddle on October 17, 1867, and to Mary S Foglesong, his second wife,- October 5, 18G9 To this last union were born eleven children, all of whom are living He joined the Evangelical Lutheran church at K'mberlin while quite young. A night or two before he died he called the members of his family together and talked very beautifully to them. He requested his favorite hymn, “Nearer, my God, to Thee,” to be snug at his funeral His request was complied with. The funeral services were conducted in Kiuiberlin church in the presence of a large congrega tion. We extend our sympathy to the entire family. May God guide the widow and through her the children. 1). 8. F. Adam T. Horine passed from time into eternity on November 30, 1901, in his 67th year, at his home in Highland Park, Teun. He was bom and reared near Middletown, Md., aud united with the Lutheran church in early youth at Mt. Tabor, Md , aud was always faithful to his vows, although through force of circnmsiauces he was compelled to wor-hip at other churches than that of his early taiih. He w»s au industrious, upright, houe t msu, aud always ru sympa hy wiih the less fortunate than him-eif A kind father and hu^bind, he was held in high esteem by bis friends and those who knew him best. His devoid wife, nee Deborah T. Smeltzrr, two sons aud two daugh ters, were lefr to mourn for him. The state history ot Tennes see iu a sketch of his life pays a deserved tribute to him as the pio neer horticulturist ot We.'teruTen- nessee, and was instrumental in directing public attention to a.liue of work which is now a profitable industry. Two years ago he was stricken with piralysi-*, and was patient and resigned to his suffer ing until relieved by death. The deceased was a brother of Rev. M. C. Horine of Rasding, Pa , aud also had several other near rela tives iu the Lutheran ministry, among them being one iu the Uni ted Synod, Rav J. W. IJorine, a nephew, Charleston, 8. C. His funeral service was conducted by Rev. Hawk of tbe Methodist Church, assisted by Rev. Dr. New comb aud Rev Caldwell. Geo Henry Peeler of Union Lu theran congregation, Rowan coun ty, N. C.. died January 5, 1902, at the age of 82 years, 2 mouths aud 13 days. Ha was twice married, and leaves a widow and one son, a daughter havingpreceded the lather to the grave. Father Peeler reaehed a good ripe old age, but at last death claimed him as its own. After a short funeral service by the pas. tor, his body was laid to rest in the graveyard nearby the church. J. P. Mrs. Sallie llaukla was born March 15 1820, and died January 6, 1902 At about the age of nine- iet.u or twenty she became a mem ber of a catechetical class under tbe care of old father, R-v Jacob Scherer. Shortly afterward she united with St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran church, Wythe county, Va . by confirmation, aud remained faithful to duty until death. She was twice married, first to William Buchauan by whom she became tbe mother of a son and daughter; second, to Walter Haukla. All of these have passed before her to the spirit world. The funeral ser vices were conducted} in the pres ence of a large and sympathizing audience at ber late residence, alter which her remains were laid to rest iu the Buchanan family ceme- t< ry on the farm.
