North River Pastorate, Synod of Vir
ginia.
Only since October Gth, 1901,
has North River pastorate been in
existence as separate from the
Capon pastorate. A division of
tbe Capon pastorate was consum
mated on the above mentioned
date, when North River church,
St. James and Mt. Moriah were
constituted a pastorate, and He
bron, St.Peter’s, Trinity and Tront-
Run churches, all of the old pasto
rate, were left together with its
former name; to these Fair View
chnrch was added at the meeting
of synod in October, 1901.
Tbe new pastorate completed a
parsonage recently at Rio, W. Va.,
into which the pa-dor and his
family moved December 5th, 1901,
jost forty-three (43) years from
the time he preached his first ser
mon to the people of North River
chnrch. *
Then there were only three
members of the Lutheran chnrch
of the Synod of Virginia west of
tbe Capon mountain and in the
territory embraced in the new pas
torate of which I write. Now we
have three orginized churches,
with five stations and one hundred
and seventy-three (173) members.
The members entered into the
work of building a parsonage with
commendable zeal, and all seem to
be happy in the success which has
attended their efforts. And when
the necessary outbuildings shall
have been erected and the lot prop
erly enclosed, which will all be
done in due time, they can always
offer a pastor a comfortable home.
We have received evidence of
mnch esteem from a number of the
members since coming into the par
sonage, in tbe shape of supplies
for oar table and other nsefal arti
cles, for all of which we are very
gratefnl.
If the editor of The .Visitor, or
yonrself, Mr. Pnblisher, or both
of yon, will come this way we will
be happy to entertain yon and give
yon a “shake down” in our “spare
room.”
I will add that we received nearly
one third of the value of the par
sonage at Wardensville from the
Capon pastorate. We are sorry
that said parsonage is now vacant,
bnt hope a good man may soon be
domiciled in it. P. Miller.

Christmaa in Salem Pastorate, N. C.
We had a Christmas service and
tree in Salem church on day before
Christmas. The mnsic for the oc-
sasion was good and all the reoita-
. -nr
Lons and other exercises were in
keeping with the Christmas facts.
AH- the children performed their
parts well. The gifts on the tree
were spoken of as typical of the
great gift given by God to man.
The teception was made to signify
the reception of Christ by the
baud of faith.
We thank the good people of the
entire pastorate for the many things
received at their hands. Grace re
membered their pastor by the pre
sentation of a very ban Isome pres
ent. For all these tokens of ap
preciation we are thankfnl, and
ask the blessings of Heaven to rest
upon the members. _________
