taining to the preservation of health,

than that about taking cold. Ac
cording to the popular, and I may
also aay to some extent professional
view, taking cold Is the greatest
disease and death producer in the
world. Fully eighty per cent, of
those who consnlt physicians pre
mise by saying, they have taken
cold. If a relapse occurs daring
convalescence, ten to one the blame
is laid on the aetion of cold. “My
pain la greater, I most bare taken
cold: I do not feel aa well tkie
morning, I think I hare taken oold,
but I don’t know how," are expres
sions which the physician heart a

thereby often led to the reflection
that if it were not for death dealing

about taking cold. The sick and
their friends nearly always take their
cue about disease and its causes
from the trusted family doctor; and
he accounts very often indeed for an
aggravation of the symptoms of
those under hie charge (the cause of
which aggravation by the way, may
be, and often is, very difficult to
detect) by the easy and satisfying
explanation of haring taken oold.
In this way be gate over the trouble
of attempting to make plain to un
tutored minds what fa often a pus
zling problem to the meet trained
intellect, and at the same time shifts
