Rnde : Tcrmit me tlirough the column* of the dear Finiter, to give to it* many traders a few lines from Lie Chnrch in Mis fcissippi, and es|»eciaNy of a series of Hireling* held iu all the churches composing the Mississippi Synod for the past two mouths. It is ever en couraging to the sincere lovers of the chnrck to hear of its triumphs aud successes, and of its welfare generally. At the session of Synod last year the ministers, after taking council, deemed the union of our small min isterial force and energies of prac tical utility in holding protracted meetings during the present year, a* otherwise each pa.-stor could pro cure but little aid, or lie forced to the necessity of procuring the aid of minister* from other denominations, which practice has already done much to the detriment of the Luth eran Chnrch iu Mississippi, and thereby compromised to a great ex tent with Methodism. Consequently there are many that are weak and sickly amongst us, having never knowu fully the distinctive features and doctrines of the evangelical church. And with this in view- well ns » the , as salvation of souls, the course above alluded to was adopted and practiced this year. It is not, as will lie seen in the sequel of this sketch, that we have achieved such great results as regards tbe acces sion of nnmbers to the church that we write, but that we deem such sketches of interest to tbe church.
