Only your restless heart keep still.
And wait, in cheerful hope, content.
To take whate’er His gracious will.
His all-dirtceniing love has sent;
Nor donbt our inmost: wants are known
To Him who chose os'for his own.
He knows when joyful hours are best;
He sends them as He sees it meet;
When thou hast hornet the Hery test
And now art freed fjoa all deceit,
He comes to thee all unaware.
And makes thee own Hi* loving care.
Nor in tbo heat of pain and strife,
Think God has cast thee off unheard ;
Nor that the man wlnh prosperous life
Tho'» envied, is of Him preferred ;
Time passes, and much change doth bring
And sets a bouml to everything.
All arts alike before Hi* face ;
Tis easy to onr God most high
To make the rich man poor and hase.
To give ttm poor nmt wealth and joy.
True wonders still of Him are wrought,
Who settetblip nod brings to naught.

to her a delight, -ttightj two years
she had walked iu the footstep* of
her heavenly Master, having given
her heart to Jesus wf eu hut fourteen
years of ageu ' *
Before tbo minister bade adieu to
this aged saint, she said: “I want
you to tell the children of America,
when you return to them, that it
will save them from a thousand
snares to mi ad religfou young. Tell
them that you saw gn old lady of
■six and ninety year*, who hits spent
her life in the service of the blessed
Redeemer, and she has no such
source ot ro;il joy as the remeiu
brance that she early gave herself
away to Jesus.”
From many of the follies of youth
aud the sius of maturer years she
had been preserved, 1*cause that in
life’s early morning she bad sought
and found the Saviour. Bitter have
befcn the regrets of many a heart
that, waiting for a more convenient
season, life’s best years were spent
in the service of Satan ; but no one
ever regretted that life’s earliest,
best years were giveu to Him who
has said, “Those that seek me earlf
shall find me.”
God’s Throe Helps for Children.
“it’s very hard to do righ^jihtn a
little boy to his mothe£4rtfedi«y. “I
dou’t tliiuk Gffjpjwflfpnnlah children
for doing wrong when they can't kelp
it.*
Freddie thought this argument a
good apology for sinning. But hi*
mother thought it was 110 apology at
all. So she said :
“But children can help doing wrong
if they use Gad'll help*."
“God’s helps f ex churned The boy
with a look of wonder. /‘What are
*God’s helps ? I never heard of them
before.”
“Perhaps not by that name, my
.sou,” rejoined the lady, “but yon do
know them, I think. They are, I.
The BiMe, to show you what is right.
2. The Holy Spirit, , to give you
strength to do it. 3. Your coaaoMiaot,
to chide you when you do wrong,
aud to cheer you wlieu you do right.
These are God’s three helps for chil-
dreu.”
Freddie went to the window, look
ed up to the blue heaven*, and
thought tbo matter over in silence
for several minutes. Then turning
around be said:
“Yes, I think God does help ehil
dren, and it isn’t his fault; but trky
then don't they do right f°
“Because they dou’t use God’s
helps, replied his mother.
“I see it now,* said Freddie, with
tears iu his eyes. “Boys can help
doing wrong if they chooee. It is
not Gqd’s fault nt all if they don’t.”
I hope Freddie used God’s help*
after that time, but I don’t know.
But whether he did or not, I trust
all thinking families will. Let them
study the Bible for instruction, pray
to Jesus for the Holy Spirit to help
them, and be ^obedient to the still
small voice—the soft whisper in their
hearts, and they wiH find that ehil
dren can help dhfng wrong. God’s
•nighty arm of grace con help them
keep his holy commandments.
