—The Ee. hoik. Friedenebote, of
Akace, speaking of the operations
of the Baptists in that country, re
marks : “We will pray the Lord to
restrain the error of Baptism which
seeks to substitute its vein human
work, its netf appointed ablution for
God's work of the one holy Baptism.
To follow after Jesus is not to
Imitate and ape after Jesus in the
things which pertain to Ills office as
Saviour, eke asset we cause oar
pelves to be ernciflsd bodily. To
follow after Jeans k to deny one's
self with all one's pride and carnal
thoughts, and to take op one's cross
daily, but not to walk in seifap
pointed self holiness.” The Baptists
deny the efficacy of baptism as
taught la Holy Scripture, making
all its virtoe depend upon man, and
yet these same people hare made
a schism ia the church of Christ
because of their peculiar view as to
the proper form of baptism. This is
gross formalism. Their disposition
to baptise ia a manner and at times
to aMtke it particularly unpleasant
for the person to he baptised, shown
that they hold to some extent the
Romish doctrine of merit in works.

right in this. The subject is one
