In essentials, unity; in nonessentials, liberty ; in nil thing*, charity .” t SPECIAL WOTTCO*. Remittances must he made in P*st Office Orders, Baak Check*, or Drafts, if possible. If these cnn not t«e obtained, send the money in n Rkovsterkd I.rr tee. AH Postmasters are obliged to register letters when required. Papers are sent to subscribers nntil au express onter to discontinue is re ceived, and all arrearages are paid, as required bjr law. Merely returning a number of the paper by mail, is not suf ficient. ‘ All (-oimunnicatious relating to sub scribers, should give their names very distinctly, and carefully indicate which are old and which are new subscriber*. Not only the name of the post office, but also that of the county and State of each subscriber is necessary, in order that the proper entries may he promptly and accurately made. Marriage and obituary notices, and other matter intended for publication, should be written separately, and not in business letters, to receive proper atten tion. Clubbing. To Clubs of five (5) prepaid sub scriber#, sent to one address, we mail the Visitor for #3 for fifty two numbers. A 1: the aci South do not, North Carolina Synod. Our renders will read with interest the account of the transactions of this body furnished the Visitor by the Secretary. Several letters have been received by us since the ad journment, the oouteutsof which we condeuse, as they throw additional light ou the “abstract,” rnn says: “I never endorsed >n of separating from our General Body, and I really think that a majority of the lay members do. 1 trust these things will right themselves in time to come. We who are dissatisfied hope for the best.” | Another eorres|M>udcut writes: “The separation from the General Synod *a* uucalled for, precipitated, and ill advised.” informs us that a majority desire to re unite with the General Synod ; but this seems to us highly improbable, as the further agitation of connection with any other body was postponed for five years. We learn also from aoother source that liev. Hotbrock introduced a resolution contemplating an imme diate union with the General Synod. The vote was staved off. This much however seems to be certain: the union with Tennessee Synod is, for the present, at an end. As regards the contemplated itemi nary, the plan, we learn, is to raise #12,000 as an endowment fund, then to elver a professor sound in the faith, and start the Seminary. Again, another friend writes: “If the General Synod was only a little more Symbolic, the N.CTSynod would have xeturued toil.” A “little more Symbolic? is a very indefinite expression. Luther was not a Symbolist ; be knew nothing about the Form of Concord; and we will prove, as soon as w# have space sufficient, that Luther tanght the communion of saints, the fellowship of believers, and that to him the true preparation for the Lord's table was hungering and thirsting %fter righteousness in faith, and not dog matic knowledge. Yet this is what Symbolists insist on. It also appears to os inexpedient and impractical for North Carolina Synod to attempt to establish a Theo logical Seminary. It can never be come a first class school of prophets. It must always be a third rate ineti tutiou. One professor to teach all that should be tangbt in a Theologi cal Seminary ! It is very much to be regretted that Trot. Bepass is not sufficiently sound in the faith for North Carolina. Now we venture a prediction : North Carolina will only find an acceptable professor of the ology in North Carolina. If North Carolina would re unite with our General Synod, it would obtain all it desires, it would accomplish good, and it would be a power. Isolated, it is a reed. Its Seminary wiH be an impossibility. The Lutheran church baa no# too many one barse institutions. (Tnholy ambition, mis taken zeal and blind pr^odke have run riot, and misapplied and wasted the peoples’ money. The beet and the wisest course for North Carolina to adopt would be to endow a pro fessorship #i the General Synod’s Seminary. The Synod could reserve to itself the right to nominate the professor, and it wonld thus have it in its own power always to fill its chair with an Evangelical Lutheran. We have strong hopes of North Caro lina Syfiod. We believe that It Is the Lord’s doings that the union of The Bvaagslkal AHtanos. Our readers will beer «i that we have never advocated this conglomeration It hi a cake Mi turned. We ngotee to see that the Lutheran Observer Is now showing it the eoM shoulder We all the time were poxaied because Lather sue had anything to do with It, and the fact that this self called body ban concluded to dispense with the Lord’s Sapper during Its tensions In New York next October, on acwooat ot lo© close communion itspusi*, who love water more than the Wood of Christ, snd who place water above the word of God, proves that we have always been right la mist root ing the Evangelical Alliance. As Rev. Ban lay says in the Observer ; “Sham union will do no good.* Dr Conrad, who Is very charitable, nevertheless says: “We regard this decision a great mistake. If the members of the Alliance eaa oat unite as Christians in the Holy Hop per, it seems to as that there is little use in trying to noil# practically ta anything rise.* The Visitor goes farther.
