ERASMUS.
Erasmus doubtless said many
keen, sharp, and satirical things of
lather and the Reformation, and
not of them alone; the sharpest and
keenest cats of his humor were ap
plied to those of the other side. If
his account of monks, priests, pil-
phnages, worship of saints, etc. , in
h» “Praise of Folly,” approach the
tratb, it were sad indeed. But in
his earnest hours, in his letters to
Cardinal Wolsey, to the Archbishop
of Mentz, to the Elector Frederic of
8«*wy, and to the pope, be bears
