A ■pister's character is his capi

strong to express the intensity of

this matter of ministerial character.
It should be above suspicion. It

is a minister of Christs gospel is
thtaNy ruinous. Recognizing the
^amonut importance of this mat

bishop, says: Take heed to

It has been said that, io bo duly

a nature effused with it throughout.

V.vcry man has his crctnl—some
thing he believes and nets on—and
the more clear ami definite his view
of it the better for him. The ate
ehanic has his plan of work, which,
for that'" work, is his creed. The
politician lias his platform, which, in
affhirs of 'statc, ia his creed. The
Christian lias his articles of faith,
which are his creed:
A creed may bo nttrely mental, or
it may be written ; it may be more
or less comprehensive ; but so far as
it goes, if it expresses oar belief, It
Is our creed. Every believer Has,
aud has * right to ho|re -n 'creed.
Just as clearly every association of
believers has a right to have, and
should have a creed. They can not
unite and cooperate without it; and
having it, they should abide by it,
maintain and practice it consistently
and faithfully.
This is the commou sense of the
subject, tv which no reasonable ob
jection can be made. It does not
dishonor the Word of God to have a
written coufession of' what we be
lieve it teaches. Nor does it violate
Of conscience. We may
impose our creed upon others ,
no more should any one be allowed
to accept it or act nn^er it wl^o does
not believe it. hi either case it
would be . to make it but an instru
ment of hypocrisy. Its proin r euds
nses are to declare aud pro-
f truth, and an hdheuf Heii. f
and practice of it.
