been four persons added to the

build a house of worship free for
all dehorninations. Rev. Kreps also

We are uow a licensed minister
with. salary, not of the Gospel,
nor of the church of Christ, but
of the State of South Carolina—
We speak by authority, the au
thority of the comtnouwealth of
South Carolina, aud woe to him who
dares to dispute it, for we, or—-to
tell the truth—a frieud paid $1.88
for it. But our reign is but short,
it ends with June 30th, 1873, so
saith the—we would like to wnte

a piece of pasteboard. Readers out
side our wisely aud well governed
State (!) may uot uuderstand this,
we will therefore tell all about it.
Rev. E. A. Bolies, the iudefatigu

Society, aud our kiud brother al
ways ready to aid us, met us the
other day aud said: “Have you got
your licenser “Liceuse, what do

It now tiecnme our torn to ask:
“Have yoUjgot yours V* “Yes. What
are you going to do ?” “Get mine.
No use to fight the state of South
Carolina, now she is backed by the
army and navy of the United States.”
We thanked Bro. Bolies for bis kind
ness in calling our attention to the
“Act,” and went home cogitating.
Now, we do not object to being taxed;
we have always held that a citizen
should contribute according to abili
ty to the maintenance of law and
order, and that a voter should carry
bis ticket intone hand, and his tax
bill, receipted in fall, in the other,
when he votes. Nor do we object
to the classification ; onr Lord was
ranked with Publicans and sinners
by the Pharisees of his day, why
should onr Pharisees not have the
same right? “The disciple ia not
above his master P Bnt we object
to being taxed as a minister of Jesna

language of the “Liceuse;” we ob

will we do with it? That is the
