work which requires a more thorough
preparation of mind than that of
preaching the ansearohahle riches of
Christ In all other vocations some
kind oi preparation is uecessary, but
in uoue so absolutely necessary as in
tbe ; Christian ministry; fur hers
much, very muck is involved, aud the
slightest error or mistake in perform
iug the work may cause the loss of
an immortal soul, whioh is of more
intrinsic value than thousands such
worlds as this. This being conceded,
it-becomes clear aud satisfactory to
every candid mind, that to arrive at
any degree of eminence in the miu
is try, requires a devoting uf all the
time and talents to the work of the
ministry. The |>reacher mast, in or
der to arrive at a degree of pro
ftciency in his work, hate his whole
mind, spirit and soul in it, and re
gard preaching the Gospel as the
one great and only aim of his life,
and labor to make every thiug which
he studies and does contribute to
this eud, and ooly by doing this can
he arrive at a commendable degree
of proficiency in the sacred ministry.
