“There ia a Baptist church in ear
neighborhood which hoe within the
last three years enjoyed a revival iu
which quite a number were bopefolly
converted, but they would not unite
with the church ou account of close
communion. They are Baptiste, but
not close oommuniouists. The church
is iu a languishing state, aad their
minister prays and labors that it
may be built up, aud yet prevents-
this result by the practice of close
communion.”
We know of several similar cases.'*
A great revival was enjoyed not
loug since in a village in Ohio, in
connection with the Baptist ehorch,
but the couverts would not unite
with the church and be prohibited
from siltiug down with their Chris
tian friends at the Lord’s table. The
church finally made the concession
that they might do so, and this
partly cured the difficulty. Had it
not been regarded as a temporary
expedient, lo catch accessions, rather
than a regard for principle, it would
have cured it altogether. Baptists
must return to the old goapel rale,
and receive whom Christ receives*-—
