Our meeting was of interest ,aud
profit. The only thing that seemed
wanting was the presence of our ao-
tive, working, State agent, Rev. Mr.
Wych, who was absent, ss be said,
in other fields among his Uratbyto-
riau brethren. This leads me to
reflect that perhaps preachers, peo
ple, Bible societies and all expect too
much at the hands of Mr. Wj cli, we
lull our consciences to sleep and let
them quietly repose and dream till
he comes along and awakes them by
his firm, unerring rape of duty,
instead of raising the hue and cry
ourselves: it is day, the moruiug is
gone—midday has come, go to work
in your owu fields, no louger slum
ber—no louger sleep—but take bold
of the work of spreading the Bible

agent is to explore the State, ours
the County. He is doing his work
well. Let us do ours better, aud a

believe that baptism is simply a
sign of a grace to be hereafter pos
sensed, but, as the promise is unto
the ckildreu of believers as well as
theuiselves, she believes that a seed

covenant, which will eventually come
to maturity. Not that all baptized
children will be saved—far from it—
but all those whom God foresees

however, teaehiug a nearly similar
belief in their symbols, which they
now see proper to disseut from. It

Such thing* are not
obligatory upon individual churches,
if it is thought best to dispeiim- with
them, but for tbe sake of regularity
and bannouy, it is proper that the

felt to be good she retained, and she

in that church whose origin was a
pure one. She merely wished to
expurgate the evil, aud not throw
the good overboard with it; and
did not couaider it necessary to
carry tbe iconoclastic spirit to such
an extreme as tbe demolition of all
tbe internal good and the external
beauty of that system. Everything
is liable to abnse in this poor world,
and if formalism may sometime*

equally great abuses that exist
where often there is tbe greatest
antagonism to forms 7 Besides, for

is not depeudeut upon these outward
circumstances. And there cau be
no worship without some form, for
even if an extemporaneous service is
improvised by a leader, it must
necessarily l»e a form to those who
follow it.
But simple forms that have been
thought to be beneficial have been
retained in our church, and it is one
of her distinguishing marks, and we
are of opinion that it is the |best
method to preserve that decency and
order recommended by. St. Paul.

church, and this also distinguishes
her from some other denominations.
