Oor last pastor gave of fence to some by expostulating with them for such things. We have some who are so constituted that they always see things the wrong side up, and they read the Bible so, but are just as honest, so far as we know, v>as anybody. We can not afford to drive them away. We have some who do not like too plain and searching sermons—sermons that awaken their consciences and arouse their fears. Our last pastor was not very popular with this olass. They want something pleasant on the Sabbath. We have some who are dependent in their trade or occu pation upon infidels and saloon keepers, of which we have a large number. They will stay away If the pastor announces his intention to preach on the sin of Sabbath break ing or intemperance. But you see what we w-ant—a mao that will preach the truth. At home, tbe |>et and darling of the household; at school, tbe joy aad pride of her teacher, aud the centre at attraction aroond which her school mates loved to c’uater—ever and anon, from heart and lip, bursts tbe agonizing question, “How can we do without her T We can but weep for thc cherished lily of our garden, the development of which we had watched with such pride and delight, one week brighteuiug aud cheering with its beauty aud fragrance, the next, broken and withered—withered ou earth, but bioomiug in a more con genial atmosphere, and nuder tbe care of a more skillfril gardeuer, yet we are now permitted to eqjoy its loveliness, and we must indulge the luxury of tears, sven (bough they evince a selfish sorrow.
