which waa held in C'leburue county,

other days called Campbell county,
but now is known as Douglas county,
Geo. Iu Alabama service waa held
twice a day, eight members were
added to the church by Coufeaaiou,
and five infants were baptised. A
kind brother of the M. K. Church
preached oue sermon for ua. I felt
that the Lord was with ua, and feel
assured that much good will raault
from the humble efforts of hia ser
vants to preach the everlasting
Gospel. The time is not distant
when there will tie a railroad near
this place, aud then we hope to have
a flourishing church at Salem, Ala
baum. May the blessing of the
Lord rest upon this people!
I next visited Lulher chain),
Douglas county, Georgia. Here a
three days’ meeting was held, the
sacrament of the I ami's Supper ad
ministered, aud three children were
baptized. The |>eoplc here are
anxiously looking forward to the
meeting of onr Bynod. 1 regret
though that they think that they are
too poor to takf the church pa|ier.

What Will be Bone With UI
Dear Editor : It may look like pre
sumption in ho obscure an individual
as myself to send you a few thoughts
of my own upoi) certain things eon
nected with the inferests of our pa
per and the welfare of the charrh.
If it be presnmption, then let my
earnest desire for the prosperity of
our Master’s cause be any apology
for these lines; snd though you may
not agree with me in all that I shall
say, I beg you set naught down in
malice to my account, but all in
love.
Tbe proposed Free Conference has
provoked not only some harsh words,
but, I fear, also unfriendly feelings,
in the bosoms of soifie hitherto warm
friends. Much has been said against
the propriety of holding such a Con
ference^ and in the opposition which
you have brought to bear against it,
I bclfeve the greater portion of the
8onthem church has been with you.
Bnt in the manner in which yon
have opposed, yonr warmest friends
and follow-opponents of the proposed
Free Conference have sometimes
been pained. And whilst ire have
enjoyed the privilege of opposing it,
I think it would have been a matter
of justice to our brethren ou the
other side of tbe question, to have
also allowed them a hearing. No*
thing has a^greateF tendency to
alienate than proscription. I do not
wonder that some of onr brethren,
who favored this “new measure,”
(aud whom wo love, though they
differ with ns in opinion) are chafing
under the restrictions laid upon th<-ir
articles intended for publication.
