Whatever shades of difference in opinion may have existed, or do still exist in regard to particular aspects of doctrine, it is unquestionably true that the entire Luthemn Church in North America is rapidly approxi mating a point of unity and faith, and, uniformity in mode of worship. Her progress in the past is not only a source of great joy to her children, but a knowledge of her numerical strength, vast resources, schools oi learning, and increased activity and liberality, inspire confidence in her future history as a mighty moral power in this the land of her adop tion. As the first-born daughter of the great Reformation, she has like a goodly vine sent out her branches from the rivers to the ends of the earth. Not confined in her operations to a continent, or a few kingdoms or states, in the providence of God she has made the circuit of the globe and planted her precious seed iu the soil ef eveiy land. As Lutherans, we may feel a just pride that we are the children of such a mother. K1RCHKNFBECX1X THE LUTHERAN VISITOR. COLUMBIVfr^m MARCH 3. 1871. ~ Til 1 ■!*■■■■"■# For the Lutheran Visitor. An Example for Itutheran*.—The Presbyterian churches in Tennessee, according to Presideiit Bartlett, of Maryville College, suffered greatly during the war. Many were supposed to be extinct. Of this number, there was one—an old log structure*—which some of the Baptist brethren wanted to purchase on account of its desira ble location. They approached the only remaining elder of the sturdy old Presbyterian stock, who was hold ing on in prayer and expectation, and wished him to fix bis price. “One hundred thousand dollars,” wps the reply.
