In the death of brother Barrier,
the ohnroh has lost a faithfol mem

neighbor, and trusty friend; and his
children an affectionate, and indnlg-

On Sunday following his death,
his funeral sermon was preached at
his house, by the writer from 2 Cor.

marked attention, by his surviving
relations and a large concourse of
his friends, who had assembled to
pay their last tribute of respect, and
to accompany his remains to their
final resting place. A. “D. I*. M.

▲HEAD AS USUAL.
He served the church as a
licentiate for seventeen yearn, and
aa an ordained minister for nineteen
years. The Bible teaches ns that
“He that goeth forth and weepeth,
bearing precious seed/ shall doubt
less come again with rej*living, bear
ing his sheaves with him.* Our
highly esteemed father in the gun)»el
had licen going forth for thirty-nix
years, sowing precious seed, and
oftentimes weeping. But he has
now returned to God to receive hi*
great reward. We hope and be
lieve that he will have, at the day
of judgment, many stars in his crown
of rejoicing, and wilt shine as the
stars forever in the kingdom of heav
en. The prophet says, “They that
be wise shall shine as the hrightuoa*
of the firmaments, and they that
turn many to righteonsneas os the
stars forever ami ever.” Brother
Swicegood died in the triumph of
the gospel faith, exclaiming, with his
last breath, “I see the angels coming
after me.” Anti, without a struggle,
the soul left the body. His remains
now lie in the cemetery at Betha
ny church, Davulsoti County, N. C.
Our departed brother, a short time
before his death, selected the text
from which he desired his funeral
sermon to be preached, to wits “Let
me “die the death of the righteous,
and let my last end be like his.”
According to request, the sermon
was preached from the above-named
text, by the writer, on the first Bale
bath in November, to a large ami
attentive congregation.
