church, Sullivan County, Tennessee,
in October, 1847. He removed to
Lexington County, 8- C n in October,
1834, and took charge of several
chinches in connection with the Ten

the work of his laud, beloved by his

by the community, he (iroved himself
a workman that needed not pi bo
ashamed. Uis health, however, fail
ed, and he, tumble from bodily in

otliemte. His five churches clung ts
him while he lived, and though his
demise was not generally known, be

Obituaries
' Another watchman on Zion’s walls
has fallen I The ltev. Wji. ITanch
eu sweetly fell asleep in Jesus at
7 o’clock, I\ M., SepU'inber otli, 1879,
aged nearly 82 years.
He was a veteran iu the Redeem
er’s cause, having been actively
engaged iu the work of the ministry
for ferty years. He was long an
honored member of ti»e Teuuessw
Bynod, and one of the original found
ers, and, at tlie time of his death,
a member ot the Ilolston Synod.
Although an illitcnfoc man, lie ren
dered important service to the Lu
theran Church in East Tennessee,
and his memory will be long and
gratefully cherished by those who
onjCjfd bis labors. He was a labo
rious and self-denying servant of
God, and his labors were owned
and blessed by the great Head of
the Church.
Nearly three years ago Father
Hancher was stricken with paralysis,
which wholly disqualified him for
the active duties of the ministry.
For some time previous to his death,
he was almost entirely deprived of
the jiower of speech, and could not
therefore leave his dying testimony

Mrs. Nitngezer was a member of
the Lutheran Church in Saranuali
for more than 22 years—having been
confirmed by Rev. N. Aldrich, Oct.
3d, 1847—and gave evidence by a
consistent walk and conversation
that she was a child of God not only
in name, but in deed and in trnfh.
Her husbaud preceded her by more
than six years to those mansions
of peace which our Saviour hath
gone to prepare for those who loro
him, wkiUt her fhthor-in-Iaw followed
her thither within the short space
of two weeks. Separated but fbr a
little while, they have uoffj as we
fondly hope and believe, been forever
re united with each other, and with
many other loved ones who had
