Yon add: “Ami th Seminary is not only gone, but the pnis|>ct-ts of the Lutherau church have been blast ed, its growth cheeked; there will lie uo rhun-h built in Wytheville duriug the litetiwe of the |uvsetd geoerutitui; and more tods- regretted than uught else, the prniige of lat- tberauism iu that region is gone.* Truly our loss is a great uml u sail our, aud yet tor the ciia-ourngcma-nt aaf yam aud yamr rvaalers, I will say that the Ioitlteran ehitreh in anal around Wytheville still lives, anal enjoys a greater degree of health aual jwvwperity than it has for many years. Notwithstanding t u:- reverses, we are growing ill numbers, iu intlu- euce,. in liberality and in eliurvit love. More than lialf a century has pass , eel away since the organiaation aft Ht. John’s eongregation, of which th* ltev. Alex. 1‘hUlippi is the jares- eat pastor. The eongregation has a history and a record replete with interest, eoneeruiug which 1 will only- say that ouc of the greatest difficul ties with which the eougn-g-.ition has to eoutend is that our large and heaatifnl church is located one mite from Wytheville. This is much to onr disadvantage, so far as our town interests are concerned. Yet it will luneh gratify- you to leant that St. -John's congregation, within the lust .three years, has purchased one of the most desirable church lota ill Wytheville, and also lias secured some money towards the erection of a church. Much luore, doubtless, would have been tloue for the church i» Wytheville, bat for the extensive repairs which have liecu made on 8t. John’s. Tliose being stout cum 1 tie ted, and some other cougrega- twnal enteqirittos being Uisitothitl of, time alone wifi make known whether a Lnther.in ehureli will be erected in Wytheville during the lifctinie of tlie present generation. It will also gratify you to kuow that 8t. John’s was oue of tlie first of our congregations to order our Book of Worship, anti it has ever ■*00* been used with constantly in- reromng faror.
