The main points are bathing, regularity of eating and sleeping hours, simplicity of food, and out-of-door exercise. The habit of daily bathing should not be sospeuded when a ehild is a few months old. It is very little trouble, and, done handily, takes little time. Xly experience has been that it is not best to bathe a ehild in entirely cold water. When he is put few the first time in a bath-tub, the water should be of such a tern pnratnre that he faaj- Sot perceive the transition from the air to the water. I have often heard mothers iwy that their children oofrW not be bathed; that they screamed ns soon as they touched the water. There are, ordinarily, bat two causes for this: either that tire child was not introduced to the bath tub early enough in his existence, or that the temperature of the water was such as to shock him. When your baby is thoroughly accustomed to the tub, yon can gradually reduce the tem perature of the water, until, after a few mouths, you can wash him in almost cold water. A child should eat regularly and simply, but should have some variety of food. I hare found that a child soon tires of one article if confined to it. Bread and milk, bread and batter, different forms of toasted bread, boiled hominy, Indian mush, cracker panada, simple preparations of corn starch, rice boiled in milk, and roasted potatoes, make a sufficient variety Give year child plenty of exercise in the open air. If you live in the city all I can aay ia, do the best yo* can; but, if yoa live in the country, with space about you and gates well secured, put your child out-ofdoors and let him wander about at his wilL In summer, leave him out all day, if be enjoys it; in winter, wrap him up, and sand him out in moderate aa<l pleasant weather Lot him got as dirty as be pleases. Hia feee will be kept pretty clean if be spend* enough time in tha open air to prevent bis taking bad colds, and if you do not allow him to eat mother* exert every energy their daughters seeompliabed iu music, drawing, pointing, to have them perfected to ericao* aad Nferu- tture, but bow few think of the one overerowning excellence of aH, the art to eouvey to others in a clear, sensible and attractive manner, the children correct; they should lie taught to took carefully at small flihitp—at evetfrthhig desirable to know at all; to understand thorough ly, and then lgum to asuimuuiofltr this, first by taikiag, aad then by writing about,it. Iu thi* wsy, by imperceptible drgreca, chlklrru learn to converse welt, to write well, to spell wed, and to enatpose wralL To write and go ap*ak Ihrir thoughts, become, not ouly easy, but a real pleasure, and growing up with a modest eoofidenoe | selves, because what they know U transparent to their miuds, they avoid that timidity and appraraoee of stupidity' ad crimmoldy the fate of those aim have never learned to uh snarl their tangled idea*. The differ cnee lies in being taught to think without having the ideas confused, as they are in ill-regulated and super ficial educations; and this is why this care fill training should be begun in the nursery. The man or woman w ho can write and converse well has always at rom quid.I a charming source of cuter tainmout for friends.
