PARENTS. A Christian's Life—A tf otlfrr's Safety. Dear mothers, I wish to say tv. few wonls to yon in reference to the importance of every titty’s bear ing witness to your fidelity in striv ing to conquer self-indulgence, in striving to get the mastery over every siiiftii thought and action. Though wc art 1 strangers and pil grims upon the eartlqyfil a future of eternal happiness or of eternal misery awaits us all, and upon ns as indi viduals rests the responsibility of our own Salvation, and, to a very great extent, the weal, or woe, of those yonng immortals committed to our rare, for tiie day is surely com ing rn which we shall have to give an aeConnt of the manner in which we sltall Bare discharged this re spoii8i\>ility. How necessary then that we, their first teachers, in whom they have im plicit confidence, should be imbued with heavenly wisdom ; that we should be clothed with the whole armor of our Leader, so that every foe may be conquered and Wc become loyal subjects of our King, and a living exatnplo of Him who, while Upon earth, was so meek and lowly that no angry word escaped his hal lowed li|>s. AH, was jicace anti purity within. Oh that wc could but realize more fully, that the spirit we now manifest will, to » greater or less degree, be reflected in the life afitl conduct of those aronnd ns. Then-, niethinks, we should be more careful aud guard ed, in our every thought, word, and action. But not in out rthh strength lies this power. It is only through (Christ’s strengthening power that we can ever attain in any measure to the fitness required for the arduous and responsible'dntie* which devolve up on us as mothers, yp^ W can take courage from the precious promises that, “as are thy days so shall thy strength be,” contained in onr gnide Book, and given by onr great Law giver, who eliangcth not. In no condition of life will he for sake his children, oh no! His love, his guidance, and his protection, are sure. I can sympathize with you, dear mothers, whoever you are, whether bound in affliction by loss of earthly goods, or the deeper sorrow of say ing the hut good niglit-to dear clier ished ones, or in imprinting the last fond kiss upon the lips that can give no response. Often wearied by numberless dtr inands tqsm our time, how precious is tho thought, tliat wc are permitted to cast aJt our care upon Him who eareth for iis, more tenderly than a mother eareth for her child. Is it not a consolation of priceless value to feel that we are thus cared for, thus upheld and sustained, and should it not stimulate us to greater diligence to ever glorify our Father by our daily walk and conversation, striving to lead others, and especially our children, in the ]>ath that leadeth to life eternal ! Then let us seek strength in the morning, for the rightful discharge of the duties of the day, and often, even through the day, lift otu - hearts heavenward for fresh supplies of grace, nnd then, as the evening shades appear, look over the records pf the day, and seek forgiveness for what has been omitted or done amiss, aud be ever thankful for the mercies which we have received. Then when life’s mission is fulfilled, we shall, t hrough the merits Of Christ Jesus, enter into tile marriage supper of the Lamb with the joyfttl assur ance, that those, whom we shall leave behind, will also join ns when their life-work is done, never more to go Out from the presence of the Isml. Bet us then persevere, and not Ik*- home weary in well doing.—Mother 1 * Magazine. YOUTH. Profans Swearing. It chill, my blood to hear the blest Supnjwu Rudely nppcaktl to on ench billing theme.
