And it does seetf* to us that the one is tw» more calculated to stagger our faith than tbe other. The peculiarity of our view of tire Lord’s Supper, will further appear, when we state that we hold to a thubie eating and drinking. One is -spiritual, Hie other is oral, or sacra mental. Tlie spiritual is that eating by faith, whieh is described in tlie ijxUi chapter of St. John—“ Except ye eat iny flesh,” as this can not take place otherwise than by faith in the tnitb Of tbe Gospel generally, as well as in the Supper, and may take place, in any religions exercises and this is essential to a w orthy eating And drinking. Tbe other is an oral or sacramental eating whieh cap ..take place only in tlie Lord's Sup per. It is the receiving ot' the body and blood of Christ w ith the mouth —one of the bodily orpins. This may also lie called a spiritual eating. His a spiritual eating to the believer. We do not mean a pass, earnnl, physic,d eating, nor do we mean such a presence, but a snix-raatm al, heav enly presence, and sui-h ho entiog as we can not describe. And snrelytbere- is nothing n-pulsivo, not hi ng offensive in saying that t hrist is received by the month. We read the Word, and It becomes the means of onr onver- »on. The Bible says of us then, that Christ is i'» u.i, the hope ot glory. How did He enter * He was ia the Word, and entered through the eye—one of the bodily otgaiis.
