Am Angel a Visit.
, bnce, an angel eanie to earth. It
took,, tie form of n little ehilri, ami
I called it mine. It came when I want
weary, muI, and hopeless. God sent
jtiwa comforter^ anil I took, it to my
ttosom and loved, aye, woreliipiied it.
With what delight did I watch the
unfoldin'; of tujr rosebud, my earth-
angel, twin . sister to the heavenly
ones. How joyfully did I revel in her
loveliness, the blooming cheeks, rings
of golden hair, large blue eyes, and
dimpling smiles. I see my Alice no?t.
God’s handiwork.
Two happy years slie was mine to
love and care for—all mine—a jewel
beyond price. I dressed her in the
richest robes and exulted in the ad
Duration she everywhere received.
Her ways were winning. I taught
"her mauy little wortls and motions,
which made her full of delight—my
roguish little girl! my sweet pet!
What wonderful plans was the future
filled with for the good of mV darling.
How careftdly wotdd I rear her, ami
Shield her from the world’s sorrows
Jtnd woes. But Gotl knew my heart
better than I. He knew that I was
not worthy such a charge. He is
infinite in mirey to His little ones.
, One afternoon I had been with my
darling to ride. Site had seen many
of ihy fashionable acquaintances, and
liihl been incirc sweet and winning
tlfrin ever, tpou reaching home, shq
wdtild not at up to eat her aipper,
Hat elriiig to me hud nestled in my
arms. 1 took her away alone, and
rocked her to sleep. Is there any
thing more beautiful than to see a
darling child falling geutly to sleep !
the eyelids drooping lower, till at last
the fringed lashes sweep the cheek,
the sweet breath coining quick be
tween the parted lips, the dimpled
ha^ids j+sting in my bosom. O,
mother! yon know the joy and pride
of your heari when your anns an*
clasped round yorir frail but precious

Only a little while did my darling
sleep. I soon found she was in a
burning feter. Hour after hour
passed, but I could do nothing to
relieve her, till—pity me, ye mortals!
—the physician caipc and uttered
the dread words, near let ferer. Each
da^- the sufferer grew worse, until we

jiath.” Oh, that I could have felt
iUdt love! bnt despair foiutd it* place
in niy heart, as 1 astir my Alice—
feven while I held her fast—slowly,
burely going from me.
It was at twilight she 1t*ft ns, as
the sun’s departing glory shed a soft
halo bver the eflrth. She ■ lay in my
hmisj iny drooping bud. Slowly anti
gently fell the fringed litis over the
large blufe feyes—my Idol’s eyes—that
Would look on mb with love, oh,

from the pale, parted lips grew
faintfer and fainter, a soft dmile play

little sigli, hnd my darling was gone,
and I was Ifeft in darkness. 1 heedwl

to heaven. My grief knew no tears.
Long I lingered with, the dariittg in
► my arms, dreading to lay her down for
the last, last time. Despair gave me
Strength to make her ready for the
grave! Sifckness had hot robbed her
of her beiitity, and sculptor never
carved a work so perfect as my lost

Continue, then, little reader, to
