this complaint in the main there was no
denial, save in this : Hewitt denied hav
ing ca’led Washington a son of a b—;
he said he only called him a d—d black
rascal. After lecturing him upon the
duties of his office and the evils of swear
ing, Hewitt was let off with the moderate
fine of 35, and is still revolving on his
official orbit a wiser if not a better man.

which closed tho docket, was that of
Peter Jcnkinsand wife, or rather woman
—for Mrs. Yenie Blaylock, a white wo
man who testified in the case, and at
whoso house the parties lived and where
tho matrimonial fracas took place,
couldn’t swiar whether Peter’s wife was
a lawfully wedded woman or only a
poligamous Brigham Young affair, testi
fied to the assault, and that was sufficient
for his Honor to find upon, and Jenkins
was fined iu the sum of £2 or the inevit
able equivalent in the lock-up.

used up all his paper and reduced his
pcneil to a stump, closed his book and
