The man who conducts bis affairs in a
methodical and business like way, and
looks closely after the expenses nnd
income ia very apt to be successful in
his business no matter what line it ia
in. The business man who conducts
bia business in a haphazard way, pay
ing no attention to his account books
ami never knowing exactly where be
stands, is very apt to fail of success.
And yet there aro those who seem to
imagine that the business of farming
does not need such exact methods,
other lines of business may need well
digested plans but they seem to think
that the rule of thumb and muscle ia
all that ia needed on the farm.
The business mun who is ever chang
ing his plans, dealing in ono line to
day and another to-morrow, will Bei
dom make a Bucees? of any line, and
the same ia true of the larmer who is
ever ready to rush into the cultivation
of any crop that for the time being
promises profit, but with which be
may be entirely unfamiliar.
He will usunlly be left by meu who
slick to the crops they aro familiar
with and study their improvement
and improved and moro economical
ways of growing them. For these
meu grow more expert in their work,
while the shifter irom one crop to
another is perpetually gainiug noth
ing but now experience and paying
.well for it.
Business methods and good book
keeping are as essential on tho farm
as in the store. Ail of this means that
the farmer should b? educated for his
profession as men iu every other pro
fession are. It menus more than the
raero keeping ot farm accounts cur
rectly, but the acquisition or the "know
how"-the application of a trained
mind to the noblem of the farm, the
keeping up v the modern develop,

that should not be kept there, eine?
they can be more successful in othei
lines of work; and if they aro educa
ted for useful lines, the farm ia no!
the loser for the leaders in every linc
bi haman activity must largely conic
from the farm, where tha sturdiest
manhood grows. And the men when
they have attained success elsewhere
aro very apt later in life to invest in
the laud because of their old love for
tho farm. Keep the boys on the farm
who want to be farmers and who love
the farm, and give them the best pos
sible training for success ou the farm,
but do not lot it worry you that some
of your boys are better fitted ior some
other life. The young man's success
should be the main object, and not
the making of a farmer of him simply
because you aro a farmer. Farmers
are to an extent like poets born, not
made. I have said enough for this
time on the subject of educating the
boys for the lunn, und success in busi
ness life. Success to the many readers
and the Democrat.
Our Brightsville candidate has made
his rounds and is now contented to
stay at home, and trust to the good
people to send him to office if they
choose to do so. "We would all like to
be office holders. I now announce my

ings of the old time rule, for the re
election of the same olllce, and that is
to take caro of the old lady aud the
children.
