Died at her home near town on
Saturday morning May 14, 1904
at 4 o'clock after a long illness, 1
Mrs. Julia A. Powers-aged 80
years, one was a member of the M. 1
E. Church South, ami held her
membership at Beunettsville. In ,
her young days her religion was
the old time sort-believing, trust
ing, loving, doing. l-l er daily life
was one of loving service. As the
years passed she held to her creed ?
until unable to do moro. Then with
a simple trust she calmly and pa
tiently waited for the BU m mons to
join the ransomed hosts on the bthsr
shore.
She leaves a large family-G sons
and six daughters, nearly all of
whom wer? ?ole to be with her at
tho close of life.
She was laid to rest on Sunday

Our Jail Empty
For the first time in years our
Jail stays empty most of the time.
Occasionally some foolish fellow
who has broken the law, is placed
behind the bars for a few hours
only, when some one who wants his
service real bad conies nj) pays his
fine and out he goes to work. The
great scarcity of labor has forced
many to resort to this to get plenty
of help.

that a "hiind tiger" 011 his way from
the still could he easily caught on
the road to Mr. C. S. McCall's
Mill, ?. I left at once. A quick
drive brought him to tho spot. Thc
buggy was on the roadside, but the
owner was busy nursing a sick
mule. The liquor had been hid in
the swamp near by and Mr. Meek
ins sooii found several jugs and
bottles lilied of different sizes con
venient for peddling. In all he cap
tured about six gallons. The party
was on his way to Blenheim hut the
mule got sick and he was caught.

fire occured while the family were
at supper and it remains u min

long fed, and locked up for the
night, when the building was dis
covered on fire. Tho loss is about
1200 with only 450 insurance in
the Farmers Mutual. Mr. E. with
hard work saved all of his stock,
hut iu rescuing a milk cow ho was
badly burned about the lace.

The young men of our town
have organized a base ball team
and arc preparing for somo line
games soon. The grounds have
been secured, the grand atoad
will bo built anti the comfort of
the ladies looked after.
One or our merchants has said
he will help the boya by paying
$1.00 for the first grandstand
play of the season. Now go for
it boys! They cross bats with Clio
this Friday afternoon.
