Died at her home near town on Saturday morning May 14, 1904 it 1 o'clock after a long illness, Mrs. Julia A. Powers-aged 80 rears. She was a member of the M. ?. C., Monday night, after a short illness. She is the moth er of our esteemed townsman Mr Thomas F Gillespie, Jr, and was for many years a resident ot our county, when her vene rable husband practiced law in tlie courts ol' the Fourth Circuit. Tho Colonel is still living though in very feeble health. Our Jail Empty. For the first time in years our Jail stays empty most of the time. Occasionally some foolish fellow who has broken the law, is placed behind the bars for a few hours only, when sonic one who wants his service real bad comes up pays his fine and out he goes to work. The great scarcity of labor has forced many to resort to this to get plenty of help. Lecture at McColl. Rev- Sam P. Oh Friday night last, the large new barn and stables of Mr. An drew Easterling, of Adarnsvill?, nt riheast of Tatum was burned1 together with 500 bushels of corn 11 large lot of forage, farming itn pliments, und other articles. The fire occured while the family were at supper and it remains a mis tery, ss Mr. Eusterling had not long fed, and locked up for the night, when the building was dis covered on fire.
