The crowd aaleBday was the
largest in years and much proper
ty was sold. The Clerk of Court
sold four tracte, the Trustees of
the Webster lands sold all the
tracts, and other tracts were sold,
all bringing from 45 to $85 per
acre. Auctioneer David made sales
of horses and other articles. The
poultry exhibits were fine and
many sales made. The horse trad
ers did good business. The day
passed pleasantly only ooc arrest
being made.

Effects of Prosperity.
The price of wood on the streets
has advanced from 20 to 40 per cent,
in the past fifteen days Thia ia not
attributed so much to the scarcity of
fuel, but to the fact that people in
tho country have made fine crops, re
ceived good prices for cotton, and do
not feel obliged to haul wood to town
in severe weather, unleBB they can ob
tain their prioe.
ID tho meantime, the fact, whatever
may be the cause, is making a seriou3
increase in household bills.
