Friday, October 16th, 1903, will be remembered aa one of special in terest in the commercial history of oar rapidly growing town. It was the finding and welding of the missing link between Bennettsville and"" tho "markets of other circles-tbe celebra tion of tbe completion of a Branch line to' tbe Great Seaboard at Kol lock, S. C., near the home of a noted Doc tor by that hame. We have already alluded in these columns to the great interest, indefatigable push ar d de termined effort of Messrs Drake Bros , J. F. Everett, the faithful ot?cials who never "flaged'' until they saw the completion of their enterprise some four weeks ago. Tho next movo was the reception of tho "little pot" into the great family of traffic lines. On Thursday evening last Preside.t James A. 'Drake re ceived word that the Railroad Com missioners could attend and inspect tho road on Friday, and that a special would come to Bennettsville early that morning to carry him and his offlcors over to Cheraw to meet the Commissioners and present the road, Hasty invitations were verbably given by M r. Drake and at 8 o'clock Jon day morniug the following gentlemen met bim nt the depot ami went over with him. The party were : J. A. Drake, President, J. JP. Everett, Sec'y & Ti eas ?fc Supt C. S. McCall, State Senator. D. D. McColl, Prcst.JBunk Marlboro. A. J. Matheson, Prest. Piauters Bank P. A. Hodges, Mayor of Bennettsville. Hon. J. II. Hudson, Hon. H. H. Newton, Capt. P. JJ. Breeden, Don. J. N. Drake, Ii. Lee Kirkwood, Julius T. Dudley, J. P. Gibson, R. L. Freeman. Tl.o train and party was in charge of Capt Adolph Page, owner and gen: oral manager of thc Cheraw k Laucas* ter Hui hoad, who also had his hand upou the throttle and his eye upou tho rail. They met tho Commissioners at Cheraw, and with the following guests returned to Bennettsville. A thorough inspection ol' the track aud trestles was mado by the Commissioners, who seemed greatly pleased and gratified at the condition of thc rom! and thc success bf the enterprise. The Commissioners and the Cheraw delegation rested here until 3 p. m , when they returned to Cbernw highly pleased willi their visit, aud the suc cess of ibo only new road built this year. As I have not seen au y thing from thin part of the county in some time I will try and give you a few items. News is scarce in the Bethel section Colton picking and corn pulling is all il (go now. Mrs. -Nancy Bundy of Bri jjhtsville who has been spending some time willi her son tl. T. Bundy has re turned home. Wc were glad lo have Mrs. M. A. J. Moore, Misses Allie and Myrtle Mooro and Master Johnie, with us at Bethel Sunday. Rev. F. Il Shuler preached a good sermon at Bethel Suuday. He is a Hue preacher and is liked by all of his people Mr. aud Mrs. R. L Kirkwood was amoug the visitors nt Bethel Sunday. I wonder witera the two yoting men from Briglilsville were going Sunday afternoon - It looked ns il they were ill a hurry. Mrs. W. W. Bundy spent last Sun day in Bennettsville. Returning, leave Columbia about 6 p. m. and arrive" in Bennettsville about9 15. Tbosewantlng to return same day will have ample time to see j\he Fair attend to any other business and get home same day.
