The bird feeds on fe flies, gnats mosquitoes and grass hoppers, and for that reason they should bo protected. Report all violations to tho nearest magis trate and do tho county a service. Wo think half of tho fine goes to the informer. Now Bridge at Phill's Creek. Mr. James F. David has just completed for tho county a new bridge over Phills' Croek on tho road to Choraw. It is a swinging bridge and built of good material, .and thoro is no dangor in crossing now. For instance, one Southern Illinois farmer, more Srogreseive'than the rest, was in deed to secure .enough improved seed to plant 300 notes as a result of his study of corn in the Illinois College of Agriculture. These 300 acres ontyielded all o? the oth er fields on his farm more than 30 bushels per aero, and, so far- as could be determined, the fields of that entire section yielded about thirty bushels per acre. This in crease of yield meant a total gain of about 9,000 bushels, which rep resented a cash value of about $4 000 that season. As this increase did net represent an inoreased coat of production, the gain was pure profit. In another caBe a farmer in Central Illinois became interes ted in improved seed corn through the Behool of oom corn judging in the Illinois Agricultural College He scoured enough seed, grown ny a corn breeder, to plant 80 acreB.
