The Cheraw Chronicle of lust week says: "The merchants of Cheraw have raised a purse of more than a hundred dollars und placed same in hands of a competent com mittee to he expended in putting thc "river lune" road in Marlboro county leading into Cheraw in or der. It was promised that if tho town would grade down the road up the hill on this side of the river and build up tho dam that tho "river lane" would bo put in first class order by the authorities of Marlboro. But owing to the fact that the numerous freshets this year have left the "laue" in an almost impassable condition our citizens have decided, without any asking, to further help our neighbors across thc river in getting n good road to travel over in cooling to Cheraw.
