Picken B and Greenville Counties a

dence, a negro church, a store and a
blacksmith shop, and fences and

Capt. J. Y. McFall, clerk of the
Court of Newberry county, died on
the 2nd inst. He was n gallant sol
dier in the late war, and in that ser
vice lost an eyo. He waB about sixty
years old, and leaves a widow and
four eli i biron.
There is a clean victory for the
Democrats in Indiana in the election
of Judge Turpio as United States
Senator, to succeed Mr. Harrison,
Republican, which brings to a pleas
ant close an arduous struggle that at
one time seemed to be incapable of
lawful and peaceful settlement.
Dispatches from places in Montana,
Dakota and other points along thc
Northern Pacific Hoad report that the
continued succession of blizzards and
deep snow ha? been disastrous to every
interest in those localities. Heavy
mortality among cattle has been caus
ed by the sovere cold and starvation.
Disastrous floods are reported in
Ohio, Cincinnati, on tho 4th, was
overflowed in the lower portions of the
city, and nearly all the railroads lend
ing to it have to discharge passengers
in thc suburbs as tho trains cannot get
to the depots.

pliine. He was one of the lending phy.
lucians of Knoxville, but bad recently
been dissipated. He left a note saying,
"I die with malice toward none. I go to
hell. Tell my son to go to beaven." Dr.
Alexander was a member of the board ol
examining surgeons ol the Pensions De
partment.
