This has been'a dream of ours
for a number of years, a dream
which now. seems possible of
realisation. We have the peo
pie, the money, the geographical
position to warrant success, and
we have the good will of ull in
the venture. It has been sug
gested to us that the next en*

should direct their attention to
be a dog show, or, to be more
j?xuct, a bench show, this to bo
followed by a poult ry show. We
jfavor any thin*; that will attract

the table every day.
Xl is very different now. We
in get a canning outfit for a
few dollars that will put up all
these things just as they are
canned in the large factories,
only much cleaner uud'offlner
quality, and the work is, com
paratively speaking, a luxury.
You do not have to handle the
hot fruits in hot kitchen and
screw on hot lids any more.
Then you do not have to be care
ful to keep the cans in the dark,
freezing does not hurt them, and
if ;you happen to put up more
than you want to use your nier
chant i? ready to buy them at
paying prices. The cans do uot
cost half us much, and you can
get your can direct from manu
facturer at wholesale prices.
Wo never enjoyed all these
privileges in using the old glass
jars
With one of these little can
ning outfits anp family living on
a farm or eveu if ihe? have a
small plot of ground in town,
can plant everything they like
III large quatiLilies, and have
plenty lor winter and early
spring us well as summer. They
are canned with ease, and every
can will keep in the finest pos
sible manner. It is a well proven
fact that the goods put up in this
way are the tinest in the world,
as well us the cleanest. Our
merchants and their customers
are waking up to llio fact at hist
and the day is coming very soon
when the farmers in the South
ern States will furnish every
can of goods used and will reup
all the prolits there is in theui.
One great beauty in connection
with the 11 Uter is that is not
limited to ??.iy particular terri
tory. I have traveled all over
the entire South and have not
found a place where a farmer
could not raise vegetables and
some kinds of fruit to put up.
The bluck ground country in
Texas comes nearer being with
out fruits and vegetables than
anywhere else I have been, but
jl found those people more in
terested in saving such us they
could raise than anybody.
1 litre is another fact in re
gard to the little outfits as com
pared to other things we buy
which is worthy of much con
sideration. It is that you get
your money back* so soon. Any
good one will pay back every
cent it cost in clear profit in one
good full day's run. 1 have not
been ablo to find any other farm
implement that would do it.
And J have not found one that
affords ns good wugos for overv
man, woman und child ou the
place while using it. Wo put up
IJfty three-pound cans a day for
each person wo work, counting
gatherers and nil. The profits
on them is from 00 to $:i.00
according to quality. I cull that
good wages. But that is for
persons of no experience. When
a person has worked at the busi
ness a fow days th?y do much
better, and continue to improve
until they become export.

for the boy to work out, and it

think of the interesting topics,

the father and mother and the
seed man aud fertilizer mauufac
turer; and think of the iuterest
iug correspondence that may be
had with the experiment stations
and farm papers. Books should
be kept and ev^ry item of ex
pense and income entered on a
business basis, exactly as if no
relation existed between the two
and the result would be a marked
advance on the farm and greater
satisfaction with life. The glare
of the city would lose its shallow
attractiveness and the world

An investigation made by the
Texas Experiment Station shows
that the farmers ure ullowiug
themselves to be wonderfully
'?humbugged" by commercial
fertilizer dealers. The station
found tlmt the average differ
ences between selling price and
valuation were $4:00 per ton iu
case of acid phosphate, $8 00 in
case of kainit, $20.00 in case of
sulphate and muriate of potash,
and ?7.00 in case of mixed fer
tilizers. Farmers should inform
themselves so they will know
what is a fair price for a fertili
zer bearing a gi^eu uualysis.?

The people of Charlotte are
preparing to give Mr. Taft the
greatest reception ever accorded
a President of the United States
in a Southern City. Local offi
cials of both the Southern and
Seaboard Uailioads have given
the assurance that ample train
accommodations will be pro
vidod and that reduced rates will
be offered. Special trains will
be operated into the city on the
