morning of the 16lh Inst, Mr. E.J
B. Cure ton, one of oar. oldest
and most highly esteemed citi
tens. The deceased was a man
of most lovable character, every
one with whom be came in con
tact being his friend and none
his enemy The funeral servi
ces were conducted on Sunday
evening by Rev. Jesse O Row
an of the Presbyteriau church,
his pastor, and tne remains in*
terred beside his wife in. the
Quaker cemetery. A good man j
is at peace ?
After a lingering illness from
th.it new disease, pellagra, Mis..
Alice M. VauKhan. wife of Mr.
Wiley Vaughau died at her home
near Camden ou last Saturday
morning. Her deal h came as a
shock to us as in both business
and frieudly intercourse we had
been almost lifc-loug friends.
The body was brought to Cam
deo on Sunday aud interred in
family burial plot here. '
Died, at his residence in.Char- 1
lotte, N. C., on December 28th,
10C8, Rev. J. S. Nelson at the
ripe old age of 76 years. After
a long and hard, j et fruitful pe
riod of service in the cause of j
the Master, he has been called
unto his reward. Dr. Nelsou j
was born near Camden in 1882,
and in his early manhood entered
t he Methodist ministry. Thirty,
live yeare ago he was transferred
irom the South Carolina to the
North Carolina conference, and
in 1889, when the Western N. C. j
conference was organized be be
came one of its most active and
efficient members. Preachiugthe
old faith with courage and sim
plicity, bis ministry was greutly
blessed. .He held mauy import
ant positions in the church in
both Carotinus as he was pos
sessed of great brilliancy of
mind/ energy and executive abil
ity. He wus twice married, and
ot the two unions be is survived
by his widow, who was formerly
Miss Emma Anderson, of Sutes- i
ville, N. C; and Walter Nelson, j
of Monroe; Rev. W. M. Nelson,
of Taylorsville, Meynardie Net
son, of Littleton, and Mrs. J. E.
Stack, of Monroe, Messrs. James
and Waldo Nelson, of Charlotte,
N. C., aud Mrs. Carl Blakenuy,
of Jefferson, S. C.
The funeral services were con
ducted at. the house by Rev. Dr.
W. W.. Days, assisted by the
other ministers of ilie'cit,> ol
Charlotte, ami the remains in*
terred in Eluiwood cemetary.

stolons between Hamlet and
Columbia. This train will leave
Hamlet at 7.85 a. m.f and pass
Camden at about 9.50 a. in.
Returning, will leave Columbia
at 4.00 p. m., arriving at Camden
about 5.00 p. ua.
There will be no change in the
schedules of trains 66 and 48
which now pass Canden station
at 6.80 a. m. , and 10.40 p. m.
When the Limited is put on,
which will be on or about Jan.,
.1st, we will be in the enjoyment
of the services of eight passe u
get- trains daily, instead of four
as now.
This speaks well for the en
terprise of the 8. A. L., and the
projected chaugeof schedule will
be of great couveuience to not
ouly the traveling public, but to
