Chief Justice Young J. Pope
has sent to.Governor Ansel his
resignation, to take effect on
April 15. The resignation was
conveyet) in a letter to the gov
ernor vesteiday afternoon.
The news of the resignation
came as a surprise, not only to
the Governor, but to the Associ
ate Justicees. It has been known
that lor some time Chief Justice,
Pope lias been in failing health,
due primarily to the w'ounds re
ceived during the war, but his
remarkable vitality has kept him
in active service and his de
cisious have been as clear as
usual. His resignation, there
fore, comes as a shock to the
bench aud bar of t'.ie slate and
will bo received with much re
gret every where.
