Whitewash.
Everybody should know how
to mix a good whitewash. It is
/leeded in the poultry house, in
the burns, looks well on the
fences, hog* pons, ele. It is a
purifier because it is uuliseptic
iind deodorant* It is cheap,
Jooks well, and when rightly
jnade and put on is a good pro
server.

Whitewash" is made as follows :
Slnclf a half bushel of quick
Jitne in boiling water?keeping
it just covered wsili water dur
ing the prooosa. Strain this,
add a peek of salt dissolved in
wariu water, 8 pounds of ground
rice boiled in wator to a thin
paste, ona-luvlf pound Spanish
whiting, and a pound of glue to
gether in warm wator. Mix
tlieae together thoroughly and
let stand for a few days. Ap
ply hot. Coloring matter can be
added if desired. Dry paint pig
ments are used for this purpose,
Another good outside white*
wash is made us follows: Black
a luiif bushel of limo in boiling
water as dosnribod above. Add
to this after straining two
pound* sulphate of ziuo and one
pound salt dissolved in water.
If yo>? want a cream color add
Lliree pounds of yellow ochre, or
any slm.de way be given the
whitewash by adding different
paint pifunenM.
Another good whitewash is
mndu thus; Proceed as in second
formula above but add half a
pound of whiting in addition to
21110 and salt. Dilute to proper
consistency with ?lflnimillr. Ap*
ply hot. This wash Will stiolc
well for outside work.
The best way to apply white
wash is with a spray pump. It |
can than be rubbed ip with a
brush if desired, though a good
job of spraying makes an cveu

Notice hereby given tliat the
General Election lor Presidential anil
Viec-Prcsidcnthil Electors anil Repre
sentative in Congress will be held at
tile voting precincts fixed l?y law in
the County of Iversliaw on Tuesday,
November a. 1UU8, said day being the
Tuesday following the first Monday,
as prescribed by law.
Tlie qualifications for suffrages are
as follows:
Residence in State for two years, in
the County one year, in the polling
preciue.t in which the elector offers to
vote, four mouths, ami the payment
six mouths before any election of any
poll tax due and payable. Provided,
That ministers in chargen of an organ
ized church and teachers of public
schools shall be entitled to vote after
six months' residence 111 the State,
otherwise qualified.
Registration?Payment of all taxes,
deluding poll tax, assess.d and col
lectable during the previous year. The
production of a certificate or the re
ciptofthe ofllcer authorized to col
lect Eiioh taxes shall be conclusive
proof ot the payment thereof.
Before the hour fixed for opening
the^>o!ls Managers and Clerks must
take and subscribe to the Constitu
tional oath. The Chairman of the
Hoard of Managers can administer the
oath to the other Managers and to tin*
Clerk; a Notary Public must adminis
ter the oath to the Chairman. The
Malingers elect their Chairuiun and
Clerk.
.J'olls ?t each voting place must be
opened at 7 o'clock a. in., and closed at
1 o'clock p. m., except in the City of
Charleston, where they shall he opened
at 7 o'clock a. on., and closed at six
p. m.
Managers have the power to fl!1 a
vacancy ; and if none of the managers
attend, the citizens can appoint from
among the qiittlillt'd voters, the Mana
gers, who after being sworn, can con
duct the election.
At the close of the election, the
Malinger* mid Clerk must proceed to
publicly open the ballot boxes and
count the ballots therein, and con
tinue without adjournment until the
slime is completed; and make a state
ment of the result for each office, and
sign the same. Within three days
thereafter, the Chairman of the Hoard,
or some one designated by the Hoard,
must deliver to. the Commissioners of
Election the poll list, the boxes con
taining the ballots and written state
mentf of the election.

The uext morning wheu lie was
invited to a seat at the table he
reluctantly accepted. Ho was
very nervous aud agitated. He
sat op|>osite a mirror and dis
covered that he had forgotten
to comb his hair. Then he
dropped his forlc on the floor
aud as he stooped ty> pick it up
he upset his coffee. Mutters
went from bad to worse until
finally in despair the youug uaau
quit ealiug aud put his hands
under the table. The loose end
of the table cloth was lying in his
lap; wheu he touched it lie turn
ed pale. He thought it was his
shirt aud that in his uervous ex
citement wheu dressing he had
forgot to put thegkrment inside
his trousers. Thut accounted
for the smiles and embarrass
ment. There was no tune to
lose. He hurridly stulivid the
supposed sliirt into lus Jrousers.
Ten minulos later wheu the
family rose froiu the table there
was a crash. The dishes lay iu
a broken muss upon the lioor.
The young man pulled three
feet of table cloth out oT his
pants nud lied through the bucU
door. He is yet in the woods,
