The support and care of all
these various denominational in
stitutions, with their large body
of fatherless children, is a'suffi
cient appeal to every heart.
Some years ago it was sug
gested by Kev. Howard Crum
ley of Atlanta, Ga., that on the
tirst Saturday und Sabbath of
October, all those who love chil
dren set apart those days for
gathering funds to relieve the
needs of the fatherless. On that
S iturday, let everybody old ai_d
y >ung, rich and poor, devote the
day to the Orphanages, each
man sending his gift to the Or
plumage lie loves the best or
that lies nearest his heart. The
Georgia scheme worked well.
For several years an effort has
been made to arouse an equal in
terest hi Soutli Carolina, and
Alabama and Florida have also
taken it up. In every com
munity some zealous brother
might take up the matter and
p :sli it nilvl t!t<; day's work from
everybody would go to the or
phans. This proposition is not
in the interest of any one orph
anage; it is intended for one to
give to the orphanage nearest
his heart. Give Saturday's
waires to the orphans. Gather
i he proceeds on the Sabbath and
forward lo the institutions above
named. It will be sure to r^ach
the right spot, if drafts und
checks are made out to tlie name
of the institution itself and pro
visions shipped to the same.
We have no doubt that when an
individual community make*
special request of tne Ytfilway
authorities, Hour and rice and
molasses or any other products
would find them willing to de
liver without charge.
Notice that this is simply a
statement. Urgent appeals aie
necessary. The orphans need
help. The institutions are un
able to give t without, the back
iu?4 of the people. At this sea
son all their treasuries are
greatly depleted. Do not over
look the day.
