lina, who is making his first
European tour, likes London
very much, though he sighs in
vain for the delicacies of the
table of "down South."

tor this morning, "if you will
only tell me where I can get
some real corn meal in this town

A friend who was standing
near supplied the information
and the Senutor was effusive in
his thanks.

of J. L. Morgan, editor of the
WaurikH (Okla.) News, was mar
ried recently to N. L. Reed, a
young business man of that place.

Poultry Department.
It seems to us that our people
are woefully behiud in the march
of progress in the raising of
thoroughbred poultry. The fact
that your father and other re
mote uncesters wore satisfied to
raise scrub chiclceus, and were
perfectly satisfied to get fifty or
sixty eggs per year per hen, is
no excuse for continuing 10 bo
a moss baolc. The ideal hen of
today is the hen that will give
you from 175 to ?00 eggs per
annum, and the ideal fowl of the
day is the fowl that will give you
from two to four pounds more in
flesh than was secured from the
old dung hill.
Our people are now in good
shape for the inauguration of
this bettor class of poultry, and
the farmer who fails to buy a
trio or pen, or more of some ap
pioved breed this fall is stand
ing in his o vn light. Talce the
scarcity of uggs this season;
talce the scarcity of spring
chic Icons. There was no neces
sity lor it. The fault lies in the
quality of chiclccns bred and 110
improvement can be expected as
long as our people are penny
wise and pound foolish in their
ideas of iinprovmvut in poultry
culture.
It is well known that wo are
almost poultry njad, but it is a
righteous madness, and a form
of mania which it would pay
every farmer and city man to be
come iufected with. Well bred
horses, cows, hogs, and poultry
spell success to any community.
This is saying nothing about
goats and sheep which industries
have a glowing future before
them.
These remarks are however
directed to the poultry industry,
leaving the other features of
stock industry to another, or
ol hor articles.
