Fish Fry.
We enjoyed a fish fry at Adam's

party was congenial, the dinner
excellent, and the boating on the

The July term of tlie court
was adjourned on lust Thursday.
Six cases were tried ranging
from murder to assault and bat

resulted in five convictions and
one acquittal*.
The presentment of the Grand
Jury is a strong, business kite
document. We cannot fully
agree with itiu their conclusions
as to the purchase of the Waterco
bridge that three-fourths of the
tax necessary to be levied should
be assessed on DeKalb and
Wateree townships. DeK a 1 b
township being the tax centre
of the county, we think about
the same results would be at
tained by levying an equal tax
on all sections.
The presentment relating to
the Poor House is very good,
and is strictly in line with a pro
seutmcnt made in 1SW2 when we
had the honor of being a mem
ber of the Grand Jury. There
is nothing further of great in
terest in the presentment, the
time being limited. It concludes
willi a statement that the Dis
pensary had paid a net profit, to
the towns, and county of ?1)7,
GSO 05 for the tiscal year ending
June 30th, 11)08.
Farmers Union Picnic.
We attended the Farmers
Union Picnic at the Pine Grove
church in West Wateree on l;isl
Saturday, and had all kinds of a
pleasunt time as wo always do
when in the company of the good
people of that section. There
were perhaps 300 present. The
speaking part of the program was
presided over by Mr. Newton
Kelly, President of ono of the
local unions. The ilrst speaker
vras ? ? Harris of Anderson,
President of the Farmers Union
of South Carolina, who delivered
a very intersting address of con
siderable length. Mr. Harris
was followed by Messrs. R B.
Clarke, P. T. Bruce, I)r. W. ,1.
Bui dell, C. W. Birch more and
others, one of whom we were
which. Our remarks were of I lie
briefest, one reason being that
the weather was hot enough to
poach an egg in the sun, and
another that we were not allow
ed to talk politics, which is our
(orte (if we have any;.
Dinner was announced shortly
after the speaking, and it was
certainly a good one. There
\ was chicken galoro, home made
beef steak, hash, pies, tarts,
cakes, and biscuits that fairly
melted in the mouth.
We congratulate our friends
on the success of their picnic,
and thank them for the kind
ness and attention shown us.
