The bummer School is pro
gressing very nicely under the
tutelage of Profs. L. T. Baker
And Harry Trautham. There
are 38 teachers in attendance, 32

is needless to say that the lady
teachers are far more attractive
in appearance than Ihe men, and
to be strictly frauic we believe
that they are more competent in
every way, not excepting our
honorable Superintendent of
Education.

We Imve been too busy to give
the sessions much attention, and
only noted the drawing of the
jury in the case of the tittle ne
gro who was tried aud convicted
of murder with reoomraendatiod
to inercy. We know nothing of
the merit* of this case, and have
no doubt that the jurj decided
according to the 'evidence, but
it really looked to U3 like a bur
lesque on justice to put the lit
tie fellow on trial. Ho wasio
little. If be is a degenerate, he
should be buug, aud if only a
spoiled child, should be given a
good strapping daily for a term
of months, and then sent back
to hit people with an udmonition
to "go and sin no more," or, at
least, uot to commit that parti*
cular siti.
