Deaths.
We learn with regret of the
death on Sunday morning,
March 29th, of Miss Bessie Boy
kin of the Antiocli section after
an illness of about six weeks.
The deceased was an orphan, was
only about 10 years of age, and
eras the idol of two fond
brother's hearts. These broth
ers were hei only immediate
relatives. Truly God's ways
are mysterious, but we must not
question His acts, but bow in
humble submission to His divine
will.
The funeral services were con*
dncted at Salem church on the
day following the demUe by the
Bev. T. L. Cole.
On Thursday, the 2d inst., Mine
Ida Young died at the home of
h^r falher, Mr. W. J. Young, at
Dalzall, 8. C. After yearn of
suffering, the soul of this young
girl was released from its tor
tured human tenement, and is
now with God. In this particu
larly sad case we believe that
the grim reaper. Death, came
as a friend to a world- weary,
pttiu-riddeu body.
W e sympathize deeply with
the parents and other relatives
in the deuth of a loved one, but
at the same tinio- beg to remind
tliem that "He doeth alt things
well." She who lias left us is
now exempt from the ills that
afflicted her iu the flesh which
should be a source of consolation
to those who have yet to make
the journey which she has
happily accomplished.
Suspended. |
To be suspended by the neck !
by a rope, or to be forced to sus
pend the publication of a news
paper because of poor collections,
we imagine is not a pleasurable
sensation, but to be suspended
in mid-river on a trestle iu a
heavy railroad train isn't pleas-'
ant either. That is what hap-'
pened to us on last Friday while
en route to Columbia via the 8,
A. L. The cause as we are in
fo (Mied, was a fire on the track
near the end of the trestle which
Was caused by sparks from a
freight engine which had passed
over the track a short time be
fore. The delay and inconveni
ence was experienced twice be
fore we reached our destination.
It does seem that engines should
be provided with spark arresters
which would obviate these an
noying delays and iucidental
loss of property.
