Miss May Sineath of Colum bia is visiting her_cousin, Capt. H. G. Browne and family. ? The host of friends ot Mrs. S* R. Adams will be pleased to learn of her return from an ex tended visit to relatives and friends at Toledo, Ohio, ahd St Paul, Ming/ ? Mr. C. Stokes, who recently returned from a trip to Charles ton to have his eyes operated on, was not much improved by the operation. The sight of one eye is entirely gone, and he is suffering considerably with the other. The probabilities now are that he will lose the sight of both. The Tourists. The winter tourist travel is now on, and our tourist hotels and cottages are rapidly filling up. Theresa no place equal to Camden for this class of travel, which fact is being demonstrated in a practical way more and more each season. We have been informed that the mana gers and owuers of our three tourist hotels were compelled to decline more than one thousand applications last season for board and lodging. The Great Sale The great sale of Ennis bank rupt goods, now being conducted at the store of Mr. David Wolfe is immense On last Saturday, the store was crowded from early morning until late at night, and a tremendous volume of business was done. The sale is still going on, so anyone in want of bargains in almost every line had better call this week. Kershaw Guards "banquet. The Kershaw Guards held a banquet on Tuesdav night. It is said to have been a very en joyable affair, as is usually the case with any such function that Capt. R. C. vonTresckow has a hand in. Complaints. A complaint has reached ?s from W. Li. Branham of Blaney R. R. No. 1 that he is not re ceiving The People regularly. If not, why not? This paper goes out to him regularly every week as we can take an oath upon a stack of bibles as high as the Market steeple. Mr. W. T. Hall of Sumter, complains that he has not re ceived a copy of the paper since the middle of October. If not why not? The People is mailed regularly to him each week in sealed wrapper and if our peo ple don t get it something is wrong somewhere. Entortniiimciit. Deatli. We regret to have to record the death of Mr. R. W. Porter of West Wateree, which we hear occurred on last Friday. The cause of death is not known to us. _ It will be recalled that the deceased was struck in the head , at the same time thut the lameu-i ted R. A. McDowell met his death, and by the same hand. Mr. Porter never fully recovered from the blow, and it is probable that tlmt in part caused his deaih. Ho was a good citizen, and our sympathies go out to the family. Following The Flag. The law requires that all persons owning property or iu anywise having charge of such property either as agent, husband, guardian, trustee, ex ecutor, administrator, Ac., return the same under oath to the Anditor, who requests all persons to be prompt in making their returns and save the 60 per cent, penalty which will be added to the property valuation < f all per sons who fail to make returns within the time prescribed by law. INCOME TAX. Under an act of the Legislature all persons having a gross income of twenty-flve hundred dollars or more are required to make a return of the same to the Auditor at the time of making their other returns. THE POLL TAX. All citizens of this State between the ages of twenty-one and sixty years of age, exoepting Confederate soldiers, are required to pay a Poll Tax or One Dollar a year. All returns sent by mail must be made out on proper blanks and sworn to before some officer qualified to ad minister said oath, otherwise they will not be received at this office as returns. The County Board of Equalization will meet at the office of the County Auditor on the 4th Tuesday or March, 1007, for the purpose of equalizing property, hearing ooipplaints and pro tests. W. F.
