F. Truesdell at Adams' mill ou
Wednesday. She was stricken
with paralysis about U o'clock in

Seaboard, paid us a call on
Monday. We found him very
clever, but that goes without
saying as he is a brother of Capt.
W. Li. Burroughs, T. P. A.t of

? Mrs. S. E. Goodale left us
on last Friday for a visit to her
daughter, Mrs. Arthur E. Crane,
Florence. Colorado. She was
accompanied by her grandson,
Master Tom Roland Shiver.
Her host of friends here wish
her a pleasant visit and safe re

or so ngo of meeting Mr. Bul
lock, ih i^ewly appointed freight
agent of the S. A. L., here, to
succeed Mr. English. He comes
recommended as even better
than his predecessor. High

?Mr. C. N. English, late
freight agent of the Seaboard,
left us on Tuesday for his new
field of work at Columbia. Every
man, woman and child in this
community regrets the depar
ture of Mr. English. No use to
wish him success. He will
achieve that any how.

On Saturday morning a tre
mendous explosion was heard in
the direction of the Southern
depot which startled the entire
,city. It was caused l>y the burst
ing of oue of the large boilers at
the electric light and ice com
pany's plant, a defective plate
being assigned as the reason.
The building was almost com
pletely wrecked. So t remendous
was the force of the explosion
that huge pieces of machinery
were lifted high in air. and de
posited several hundred feet
away, while heavy limbers ami
metal piping were tossed about
like chuff. Showers of bricks
weie scattered over an area of
several blocks, while the elec
tric light and Ice machinery was
damaged to such extent as to
render it use loss for the present.
Strange to say, although there
were seven men at work in and
near the building at the time of
the accident, not one was in
jured. This is the ouly matter
for gratulation, as the financial
loss to the company is severe,
while tho inconvenience to the
city is considerable.
We have to report one casualty
as the result of the explosion
which may, or may not cause a
suit for damages against the
company. A very valuable young
Jersey rooster, the property of
Afr. B. J. Bissell, was struck by
a flying timber while flying from
danger, and almost instautly
killed. Mr. Bissell is open to a
compromise proposition.

one up to the Uth inning, the
score at that time standing 5 to
2 in favor of Camden, lu the
9th however, the Camden team
went all to pieces and Darling
ton won out by a score of 7 to 5.
On Thursday, Friday and
Saturday the games with Man
ning, went all our way by the
following scores :
Thursday, 12 to 2; Friday, 13
to 4; Saturday, 4 to 1.
The Camden teain plays this
week, Orangeburg and Sumter
un the grounds of the latter
named teams. There was no
game on Monday as our team
could not reach Orangeburg in
time.
